There are things Germany is great at, such as making cars, currywurst and subjugating Slavs. English fast food, though, is seemingly not one of them, as I was to find out at Klässig’s Fish and Chips Berlin.
In fairness, though, I really should not have been surprised. After all, it was obviously a German style interpretation of a British chippy located inside a train station. Just quite how bad it was, though, was the real nugget here.

What is Klässigs Fish and Chips?
Klässig’s Fish and Chips was founded by Gregor Klässig in 2003. The company was created as a fish based fast food concept aimed at high footfall locations, particularly transport hubs and city centres. Since then, the business has expanded to several locations around Berlin, including Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Friedrichstraße, Alexanderplatz and Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
More than twenty years after its foundation, it remains a small Berlin chain rather than a nationwide or international operation. The menu focuses on seafood fast food, with fish and chips sitting alongside fish rolls, fried seafood and other quick dishes.
The Klässigs Fish and Chips Menu
There is actually a pretty big menu here, which includes small bites, burgers, sandwiches, soups and even beer. The fish and chips part, though, is what brings you in, and it all goes from the €11 to €12 range. Highlights include English style fish and chips, as well as their version of various potato dishes. I will deal with this shit later.

How does it taste?
So I went for the €12 mixed box, which included shrimp, fish balls and “chips”. Now I say “chips” because not only were they bad as chips, they were worse than even French fries. These things had been fried so much that all that remained was the crispy outside, with essentially no white potato part left. These were the worst chips I have ever had in my freaking life!!!!!
And the rest of the shit was no better. Essentially, we were dealing with small deep fried balls that had clearly been cooked earlier and reheated before serving. The only vague saving grace were the sauces. I had sour cream and spicy Asian sauce. They were actually pretty good.
Yet while the sauces were good, this was supposed to be English fish and chips, but there was no salt or vinegar anywhere to be seen. A proper chippy lives and dies by these little details, and Klässigs completely missed the point.
FOR SHAME!
Honestly, these were the worst fish and chips that I have ever had ever hands down.
